The Menil recently reinstalled the African art galleries, including a display dedicated to the representation of women in sculpture that features a figural veranda post from the Yoruba peoples of Nigeria. The Menil’s foyer installation pairs the work of Mildred Thompson and Takis, two artists who were fascinated by the intersection of art and science. The spindly, swaying, antenna-like works from Takis’s Signal series of the 1950s were inspired by radio and radar technologies.
